Freedom from Guilt: Discovering God’s Forgiveness

Introduction:
Greetings, my beloved brothers and sisters. May the blessings of God be upon you all. Today, I am here to discuss a topic close to our hearts – how to overcome guilt. Our focus will be on the Gospel of Mark, chapter 2, verses 1-12. In this passage, we witness Jesus demonstrating His authority to forgive sins. Today, we will explore the right ways to deal with guilt and find freedom in God’s forgiveness.

How to Overcome Guilt

How to Overcome Guilt

Section 1: Wrong Ways to Handle Guilt

1. Burying our sins:

Guilt is a heavy burden to carry, but burying our sins and pretending they don’t exist won’t make them disappear. Instead, we should have the courage to acknowledge our wrongdoing and seek God’s help in finding forgiveness.

Just as the Psalmist declares in Psalm 32:5, “I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,’ and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.”

2.Minimizing our sins:

It’s tempting to downplay our mistakes, convincing ourselves that they’re not as significant as they truly are. But when we minimize our sins, we rob ourselves of the opportunity for growth and healing. Let us confront our actions honestly, recognizing the need for repentance and forgiveness.

As the Apostle John reminds us in 1 John 1:8-9, “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

3. Blaming others:

It’s easy to shift blame onto others, thinking that it absolves us of our guilt. However, pointing fingers only perpetuates a cycle of avoidance and hinders our spiritual growth. Whether we are leaders or members of a congregation, let us take responsibility for our own actions and seek forgiveness without shifting blame.

As Jesus teaches in Matthew 7:5, “You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.”

4. Self-punishment:

In our quest for forgiveness, we may fall into the trap of self-punishment. Engaging in harmful behaviors or dwelling on negative thoughts will not bring us closer to God’s forgiveness. Instead, let us turn to God for His healing and forgiveness.

Just as the Apostle Peter encourages in 1 Peter 5:7, “Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”

Section 2: The Right Way to Handle Guilt

1. Admitting our guilt:

To find release from guilt, we must first admit our mistakes and acknowledge the weight of our transgressions.

Like King David in Psalm 51, let us humble ourselves before God, saying, “For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.” It is in this honesty that we open the door to God’s forgiveness.

2. Trusting in God’s forgiveness through Jesus Christ:

The ultimate source of forgiveness lies in God’s grace through Jesus Christ. In Romans 8:1, we find assurance that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Let us trust in God’s ability to forgive us and restore us, for His love knows no bounds. As we bring our guilt to Him, He extends His hand of mercy and wipes our slate clean.

Section 3: The Truth of Forgiveness

Jesus forgives instantly and completely: When Jesus forgives, He removes our sins as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12). His forgiveness is not partial or temporary but thorough, instantaneous, and all-encompassing. Just as Jesus instantly forgave the paralyzed man, He stands ready to forgive us, to release us from the burden of guilt, and to grant us a fresh start.

Forgive yourself and focus on the future: Isaiah 43:18-19 encourages us to forget the former things and embrace God’s new work in our lives. Once we have received God’s forgiveness and experienced the freedom it brings, we must also learn to forgive ourselves. By doing so, we release ourselves from the chains of the past and open our hearts to the future God has planned for us. He has great purposes for each of us, and we should eagerly anticipate His blessings.

Conclusion: How to Overcome Guilt:
In conclusion, my dear brothers and sisters, let us remember that God’s forgiveness is available to all who seek it. Instead of burying, minimizing, or blaming, let us have the courage to admit our guilt, trust in God’s forgiveness through Jesus Christ, and embrace the truth that Jesus forgives completely and instantly. By forgiving ourselves and focusing on the future, we can experience the freedom from guilt that God offers us. May His forgiveness bring us peace and joy as we walk in His grace. Let us leave this place today with renewed hearts, knowing that we are forgiven and loved by our Heavenly Father. God bless you all.

Growing in Biblical Faith

Growing in Biblical Faith by Bishop Edward Brink

How to Increase Biblical Faith: Unlocking the Power Within.
Faith is not just a concept; it is an integral part of our relationship with God. It is through faith that we are saved, and it is through faith that we live our daily lives as Believers. However, there may be times when our faith feels weak, or we desire to grow in our faith. The good news is that there are practical ways to increase and strengthen our faith, enabling us to experience the fullness of God’s power and presence in our lives.

1. Read the Word of God

(Luke 17:5-6, Romans 10:17 NKJV)
“The apostles said to the Lord, ‘Increase our faith.’ So, the Lord said, ‘If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, “Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,” and it would obey you.'”

The Bible is not just a book; it is the living Word of God. By immersing ourselves in its pages, we encounter the message about Christ and find the source of faith. As we read and meditate on God’s promises, our faith is strengthened, and we gain confidence in His power to move mountains in our lives.

2. Pray for Increased Faith

(Romans 10:8, Jude 1:16 NKJV)
“But what does it say? ‘The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart’ (that is, the word of faith which we preach) … But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.”

Prayer is a powerful tool in our journey to increase faith. By praying for the promises found in God’s Word and asking Him to increase our faith, we open ourselves up to His transformative work within us. Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, our faith is fortified, and we develop a deeper connection with God.

3. Constant Communion with Jesus

(1 Thessalonians 5:11, 1 Peter 1:3 NKJV)
“Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing… Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”

Fellowship with other believers, prayer, and Bible study are essential components of our faith journey. As we surround ourselves with fellow Christians who encourage and build us up, our faith is strengthened. Moreover, fixing our gaze upon Jesus, the author, and finisher of our faith, we find hope, inspiration, and renewed strength to persevere.

4. Speaking the Word of Faith

(Romans 10:8, Mark 11:22 NKJV)
“But what does it say? ‘The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart’ (that is, the word of faith which we preach) … So, Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Have faith in God.'”

The power of our words should never be underestimated. Speaking the Word of God, declaring His promises and truth over our lives, activates our faith and aligns us with His divine purpose. By speaking words of faith, we proclaim our trust in God’s unfailing goodness and His ability to bring about the impossible.

5. Fix Your Eyes on Jesus

(Hebrews 12:2 NKJV)
“Looking unto Jesus, the author, and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Our faith is not founded on fleeting circumstances but on the unchanging character of Jesus Christ. By fixing our eyes on Him, we shift our focus from the challenges around us to the greatness of our God. As we behold His faithfulness, we are emboldened to trust Him more and witness the miraculous work of faith in our lives.

Growing in Biblical Faith

Conclusion: How to Increase Biblical Faith.
Growing in Biblical Faith is a transformative journey that requires intentionality and a deep longing for a closer relationship with God. By reading the Word, praying fervently, surrounding ourselves with fellow believers, speaking words of faith, and fixing our gaze on Jesus, we unlock the power within us. Let us embark on this faith-building adventure, knowing that as our faith grows, we will experience the abundant blessings and supernatural breakthroughs that come from trusting in our faithful God.

The Steps of a Good Man

The Steps of a Good Man by Bishop Edward Brink

The Steps of a Good Man
Have you ever wondered what it takes to be considered a “good man” or a “good woman”? We all desire to lead lives filled with purpose, success, and fulfillment. Fortunately, the Bible provides us with a roadmap, a step-by-step guide to help us become the best versions of ourselves. Today, we will explore the seven steps of a good man, each backed by powerful Bible verses, so that we may walk confidently along the path of righteousness.

The Steps of a Good Man: Unlocking the Path to Success.

Step 1:

Steps of Prayer (Luke 18:1 NKJV)
“Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart.”

Prayer is the cornerstone of our spiritual journey. It is through prayer that we connect with God, seek His guidance, and find the strength to overcome life’s challenges. In times of doubt and weariness, let us remember that prayer is not a sign of weakness, but a source of unwavering hope.

Step 2:

Steps by God’s Word (Psalm 119:133 NKJV)
“Direct my steps by Your word, and let no iniquity have dominion over me.”

God’s Word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path (Psalm 119:105). By immersing ourselves in the Scriptures and allowing them to guide our decisions and actions, we open ourselves up to God’s divine wisdom. When we align our steps with His Word, we find strength, protection, and freedom from sin.

Step 3:

Steps of Faith (2 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV)
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

Faith is the bridge that connects our desires to God’s promises. It is through faith that we believe in the unseen, trusting that God’s plans for our lives are far greater than we can comprehend. As we take each step-in faith, we invite God’s power to work miracles in our lives and bring us closer to the fulfillment of His purpose.

Step 4:

Walking in the Counsel of God (Psalm 1:1-2 NKJV)
“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly… But his delight is in the law of the Lord.”

To be a good man, we must surround ourselves with godly influences. By seeking godly counsel and distancing ourselves from those who lead us astray, we position ourselves for success. Delighting in the law of the Lord, meditating on His precepts day and night, empowers us to make wise decisions and walk firmly in righteousness.

Step 5:

Steps of Obedience (Deuteronomy 30:20 NKJV)
“…that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days.”

Obedience is a testament of our love for God. When we choose to obey His commandments and heed His voice, we demonstrate our trust in His divine plan. Obedience opens the door to blessings, protection, and a life filled with purpose. Let us remember that obedience is not a burden but a pathway to abundant life.

Step 6:

Steps of Wisdom (Proverbs 4:7 NKJV)
“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.”

Wisdom is a priceless treasure, enabling us to make sound judgments and navigate life’s complexities. As we seek wisdom through diligent study, reflection, and seeking counsel, we become equipped to make choices that honor God and benefit ourselves and others. Let wisdom be our constant companion on this journey of life.

Step 7:

Steps of Understanding (Proverbs 4:7 NKJV)
“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.”

Understanding goes hand in hand with wisdom. It allows us to comprehend the deeper meanings of God’s Word, His ways, and His purposes. Seeking understanding opens our hearts and minds to discern the truth, to empathize with others, and to find meaning in life’s experiences. Let us be seekers of understanding, humbly acknowledging that we have much to learn.

The Steps of a Good Man

Conclusion:
In our pursuit of becoming good men and women, let us embrace these seven steps as our guide. Through prayer, obedience, faith, wisdom, and understanding, we position ourselves to walk confidently in God’s will. As we align our steps with His, we will experience a life of purpose, blessings, and fulfillment. Remember, the journey may not always be easy, but with God as our guide, we can trust that every step we take leads us closer to the abundant life He has prepared for us.
