How to Exercise Authority over the Devil

How to Exercise Authority over the Devil by Bishop Edward Brink.

Introduction:

As Bible Believers, we are engaged in a spiritual battle. The Bible tells us that our enemy, the devil, is prowling around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). However, we are not powerless against the devil. In fact, as believers in Jesus Christ, we have been given authority over all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19). In this Blog Post, we will explore how to take authority over the power of the devil, using Biblical principles and examples.

1. Understanding the Nature of the Enemy.

Before we can take authority over the power of the devil, we need to understand his nature and tactics. The devil is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44), and he seeks to deceive, tempt, and destroy us. He uses various strategies, such as fear, doubt, temptation, and discouragement, to weaken our faith and hinder our effectiveness for God’s kingdom.

2. Recognizing Our Position in Christ.

As believers in Jesus Christ, we are seated with Him in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 2:6), and we have been given authority over all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19). We are no longer slaves to sin and fear, but we are free to live a victorious life in Christ. By understanding our position in Christ and the power that we have through Him, we can overcome any attack of the devil.

3. Applying the Armor of God.

The Bible tells us to put on the whole armor of God, so that we can stand against the schemes of the devil (Ephesians 6:11). This armor includes the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. By applying these spiritual weapons in our daily lives, we can resist the devil and make him flee (James 4:7).

4. Using the Name of Jesus.

The name of Jesus is powerful and effective against the enemy. Philippians 2:9-10 tells us that God has exalted Jesus and given Him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth. By using the name of Jesus in prayer, we can command the devil and his demons to flee from us, and we can declare victory over every attack of the enemy.

5. Standing on the Promises of God.

The Bible is full of promises that we can claim in our battle against the devil. For example, 1 John 4:4 says that greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world. Romans 8:37 tells us that we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. By standing on these promises and declaring them over our lives, we can overcome any obstacle and experience the victory that Jesus has already won for us.

Conclusion:

The devil is a defeated foe, and we have been given authority over all his power. By understanding the nature of the enemy, recognizing our position in Christ, applying the armor of God, using the name of Jesus, and standing on the promises of God, we can live a victorious Christian life and overcome every attack of the enemy. As we walk in faith and obedience to God’s Word, we can see His kingdom come and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven. How to Exercise Authority over the Devil.
