Overcoming Hindrances to Answered Prayer: Aligning Your Heart with God’s Will. by Bishop Edward Brink

Have you ever found yourself praying for something and feeling like your prayers are falling on deaf ears? You pray and pray, yet nothing seems to change. Well, maybe it’s time to take a step back and examine some potential hindrances to answered prayer. In this post, we will explore five common hindrances that may be standing in the way of your prayers being answered. Overcoming Hindrances to Answered Prayer.

The first hindrance to answered prayer is a lack of forgiveness.

In Mark 11:25-26, Jesus tells his disciples, “And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.” Unforgiveness can create a barrier between you and God, preventing your prayers from being answered. It’s essential to let go of any bitterness or resentment and forgive those who have wronged you.

The second hindrance to answered prayer is marital conflict.

1 Peter 3:7 instructs husbands to “treat your wives with consideration and respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life so that nothing will hinder your prayers.” This verse highlights the importance of healthy relationships, especially within marriages. Unresolved conflict can hinder your prayers from being answered, so it’s important to work on communication and reconciliation in your relationships.

The third hindrance to answered prayer is disrespect for authority.

Ephesians 6:2-3 says, “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” Disrespecting those in authority over you, such as your parents or your boss, can hinder your prayers from being answered. It’s important to show respect and honor to those in authority over you.

The fourth hindrance to answered prayer is unbelief and doubt.

James 1:6-7 says, “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.” Doubt and unbelief can sabotage your prayers, so it’s essential to trust in God’s power and provision.

Finally, the fifth hindrance to answered prayer is a lack of persistence.

In Luke 11:5-10, Jesus tells the story of a persistent friend who keeps knocking on his neighbor’s door until he gets what he needs. Jesus then says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Sometimes we give up too easily when we don’t see immediate results, but persistent prayer is key to seeing our prayers answered.

In conclusion, hindrances to answered prayer can come in many forms, from unforgiveness to doubt to a lack of persistence. By examining our hearts and taking steps to overcome these hindrances, we can see our prayers answered and experience the power and provision of God in our lives.
