1. Prayers originating from fleshly lusts and materialism.
In James 4:1-6, we read about prayers that come from a heart filled with selfish desires. These prayers seek to satisfy our own fleshly lusts and materialistic wants. God will not answer these prayers because they are not in line with His will.

“Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts” (James 4:3).

2. Prayer that is focused on an earthly and temporal perspective.
In Matthew 6:31-33, Jesus reminds us not to worry about the things of this world. We are not to focus our prayers solely on earthly concerns, such as food, clothing, and shelter. Instead, we are to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to us.

“Therefore, take no thought, saying, what shall we eat? or, what shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:31-33).

3. Prayers that come from hearts filled with iniquity.
In Psalms 66:16-20, we read about prayers that come from a heart filled with sin and iniquity. These prayers are not sincere and are not in line with God’s will. God will not answer prayers that come from hearts that are not right with Him.

“If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me” (Psalms 66:18).

4. Prayer that is used to promote our own agenda.
In Psalm 138:6, we read about prayers that are used to promote our own agenda. These prayers are not in line with God’s will and are selfish in nature. God will not answer prayers that seek to promote our own interests.

“Though the Lord be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off” (Psalm 138:6).

5. Prayer that is selfish and does not take into account the needs of others.
In Philippians 2:2-4, we read about the importance of considering the needs of others. Our prayers should not be selfish but should take into account the needs of those around us. God will not answer prayers that are selfish in nature and do not consider the needs of others.

“Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others” (Philippians 2:2-4).

6. Prayer that doubts God’s ability to answer.
In James 1:6-8, we read about the importance of having faith in God when we pray. We should not doubt God’s ability to answer our prayers. If we doubt, we will not receive anything from Him.
For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways” (James 1:6-8).
