Don’t Give Up on Your Faith:
- What is Faith?
“Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV): Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
The concept of faith can sometimes seem abstract or intangible. However, this powerful verse beautifully encapsulates its essence. Faith is the substance of our hopes and dreams, the firm foundation upon which we build our trust in God. It serves as the evidence of the unseen, giving us confidence in God’s promises and His presence in our lives.
- Obtaining Faith: Trusting in God’s Word
“Romans 10:17 (NKJV): So, then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
To obtain faith, we must actively engage with God’s Word. As we immerse ourselves in the Scriptures, God’s truth penetrates our hearts and minds, igniting a flame of faith within us. By reading, studying, and meditating on His Word, we invite the Holy Spirit to deepen our trust in God’s character, His promises, and His faithfulness.
- Reasons to Not Give Up on Our Faith
(a) God’s Faithfulness
“Lamentations 3:22-23 (NKJV):
Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”
No matter the circumstances we face, we can find solace in God’s unwavering faithfulness. He is the constant in our lives, and His compassion and mercies are renewed each day. When we feel like giving up, we can draw strength from His faithfulness, knowing that He will never abandon us
(b) Overcoming Trials
“James 1:2-4 (NKJV): My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”
Trials and challenges are inevitable in life, but they serve a purpose in strengthening our faith. Rather than despairing, we can rejoice in the midst of trials, knowing that God is refining us through them. As we persevere, our faith grows, enabling us to become mature and complete in Christ.
(c) The Example of Heroes of Faith
“Hebrews 12:1-2 (NKJV): Therefore, we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.”
Hebrews 11 presents a remarkable list of heroes of faith, men and women who faced tremendous challenges yet remained steadfast. Their stories inspire us to press on in our own journey of faith, knowing that we are not alone. Moreover, we fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who endured the cross for us. His example empowers us to persevere and not give up.
